Behind the scenes we are working hard on the development of Clearly.Hub, our Open Urban Platform. From data source to application: what is the place of the OUP in the data landscape in which it operates? And how do we guarantee scalability?
We will answer these questions and take you into the world of the Open Urban Platform, highlighting the crucial role it plays in the modern data landscape.
This week we take you into the data landscape. And next week you can read all about how we ensure that the scalability of the OUP is guaranteed.
The Open Urban Platform: connector of data sources
An Open Urban Platform, it is just part of the data landscape where data flows from different data sources. But it is a crucial part when we want to bring all these different sources together, unlock them and use them in applications.
An Open Urban Platform is more than just part of the data landscape where data flows from different sources. It is a crucial junction.
But what does this look like? From the collection of data to the final application, we take you through the 4 layers of the data landscape.
1: Collection: The source
2: Processing: Data services
3: Integration and access: The Open Urban Platform
4: Application: The end-user application
Let's start at the beginning, at the bottom:
1 Collection
This concerns raw files that are collected in the “work” field. These are, for example, .CSV, .DXF, .DWG, .PDF, .GEF, .PSL or .LSD files. These are not directly connected to the OUP, but are connected via a data service.
2 Processing
The raw files are processed via third-party data services. This way you can connect sensor data, 2D data, BIM data and 3D data to the OUP.
The OUP uses open standards, such as 3D Tiles, WMS or SensorThings, to exchange data. However, this does not mean that the data must necessarily be public. Even data that is only available within a certain organization can be used within the OUP. The owner of the data has the freedom to decide whether the data is offered as open, protected or paid.
3 Integration and Access
The integration and disclosure of the data takes place in the Open Urban Platform itself. Numerous data sources can be combined and visualized in the platform, and it is possible to easily share these data sources. This can be done within an organization, but also with other organizations or with specific people or applications. The OUP therefore functions as the core within the data landscape and ensures a secure exchange of information. It integrates various data and app sources via open standards and APIs. It is a safe environment where information and data are exchanged with respect for privacy and morality. This allows you to easily share information and collaborate in an honest and trustworthy digital environment.
4 Application
The data brought together in the ecosystem can be used in a connected application via an API connection. Consider various external applications where you can use the combined data for, for example, participation and permit issues that you could never have solved with a single source.
